Surf Kalong

Spots & FAQ

Where you'll surf

Kalong teaches all over Bali, and the Uluwatu area is home. He chooses the beach on the day from the swell, the wind, the tide and your level. These are the kind of spots he picks from.

Bukit Peninsula

Preferred area

Dreamland

SandBeginners

A sandy beach break between the cliffs. Gentle when the swell is small, which makes it a good first classroom.

Padang Padang

ReefInside section

The inside part of the bay has softer waves for learners. Timing with the tide matters here.

Balangan

ReefImprovers

A long beach with a reef break. Good once you can stand and want longer rides.

Bali's classic learning beach. Long sandy shore and forgiving whitewater.

Several breaks side by side, with mellow peaks for beginners on smaller days.

Reef breaks on the east coast that often work best in the wet season.

FAQ

Good to know

Why does the lesson time depend on the tide?

Many Bali breaks, especially around Uluwatu, sit over reef. At low tide some are too shallow for beginners, and at high tide others barely break. Each spot has a window when it works best.

That window moves by roughly 50 minutes every day, so there's no fixed lesson time. You pick the day, and Kalong tells you when to meet.

What do the dots on the booking calendar mean?

They mark days around the new moon and the full moon. Those days have the biggest difference between high and low tide, so the good window can be shorter. Kalong plans around it, and you can still book any day.

I've never surfed. Is that okay?

Yes. Most lessons start from zero. You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim, and Kalong takes care of the rest.

When is the best season?

Bali has surf all year. In the dry season (roughly April to October) the west side and the Bukit get the cleanest conditions. In the wet season (roughly November to March) the east side, like Nusa Dua and Sanur, often works better. Kalong picks the spot to match.

Can we take a semi-private lesson if we're at different levels?

You can, but it works best when you're close in level. If you're far apart, two private lessons may suit you better. Ask Kalong on WhatsApp.

How do I pay?

You pay Kalong directly. He'll confirm the details when he confirms your lesson.

What if the waves are too big or the weather turns?

Your safety comes first. If conditions aren't right on your day, Kalong will tell you on WhatsApp and suggest another time or spot.
